Free trash day this Sunday

2008-10-17 / Community

Residents of Simi Valley may dispose of residential rubbish for free from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sun., Oct. 19 at the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center, 2801 Madera Road.

Appliances, clean concrete and asphalt, clean wood and greenwaste, and construction or demolition material will be accepted for recycling.

Residents are asked to separate recyclable material from trash. The CHP requires all loads covered to prevent spillage. Residents must unload their own vehicles.

Proof of residency, such as a driver's license with a Simi Valley address, is required.

The following items will not be accepted: commercial waste, hazardous waste, liquids, tires, televisions, household batteries, computer monitors, electronic waste, products containing mercury, or fluorescent light tubes and bulbs.

The event is for residents and nonprofit organizations only.

To avoid paying commercial dump fees, residents who will be transporting their waste in a commercial vehicle should first call the landfill at (805) 5797267.
