No less than two engineers should be on every train

It seems that when it comes to the Metrolink train crash, more are to blame here than the engineer.

Management wants to save a few bucks. We wouldn't fly on an airliner without a pilot and a copilot, so why is there only one guy driving this train with a couple hundred lives at stake?

If he was text messaging then obviously he was distracted. However, let's suppose it was a medical problem—heart trouble, seizure, sleep disorder, etc. How does this guy even get a bathroom break if his lunch doesn't agree with him?

There should be no less than two people responsible for running this train. This should be done immediately. Automated computer backup systems should be added as quickly as possible on dangerous sections of the rail network. Mark Hannan Beaverton, Ore. Hannan grew up in Simi Valley and has family who rides the Metrolink.
