IRIS SMOOT/Acorn Newspapers IRIS SMOOT/Acorn Newspapers SPECIAL OCCASION—Rabbi Michele Paskow blows the shofar, an instrument traditionally made from a ram's horn, for the students of B'Nai Emet Congregation preschool on Monday in honor of the Jewish New Year, which begins at sundown, Mon., Sept. 29. The shofar, one of the world's oldest instruments, is sounded at Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services.
