Families invited to see Y's new fitness center

The Simi Valley Family YMCA will host a ribbon cutting and grand opening for its new Youth Fitness Center at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Sat., Sept. 27 at 3200 Cochran St.

The center has workout equipment specially designed for youth exercise programs.

The center is geared toward children ages 8 to 13 and also has active-electronic games like Wii Fitness and Wii Dance Dance Revolution.

Certified fitness instructors conduct a fitness orientation with every new participant and progress is monitored at all times.

Youth attending the grand opening will get the opportunity to try out the exercise equipment and parents can talk with YMCA fitness instructors.

Arts, crafts fair is back at Simi senior center

The Simi Valley Senior Center will host a Fall Arts & Crafts Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fri. and Sat., Oct. 17 and 18 at the Simi Valley Senior Center, 3900 Avenida Simi.

The public is invited to view items for sale by more than 30 skilled senior artisans.

Fair admission is free.

In conjunction with the fair, an All-U-Can Eat Pancake Breakfast will be served from 9 to 11 a.m. Sun., Oct. 18 at the same location. Breakfast tickets will bee available at the door for a fee.

Women's club will meet Wednesday

The Simi Valley Women's Club will meet at 11 a.m. Wed., Oct. 1 at the Simi Valley Community Center, 50005 Los Angeles Ave.

The program will be "How secure is your home?"

High Holy Day services to be held at Mt. Sinai

Congregation B'nai Emet will hold High Holy Day services at Mt. Sinai Memorial Park, 6150 Mt. Sinai Drive, Simi Valley.

Rosh Hashanah, which inaugurates the Jewish New Year, will be celebrated at 8 p.m. Mon., Sept. 29, with an additional service at 10 a.m. Tues., Sept. 30.

Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, will follow 10 days later with a Kol Nidrei service at 8 p.m. Wed., Oct. 8.

A 10 a.m. service will take place Thurs., Oct. 9, followed by a children's service at 1 p.m.
