Ghost Tour reappears at Strathearn

Twenty-five spirited spooks will roam Strathearn Historical Park in October when the 10th annual Ghost Tour returns for Halloween.

Organizers anticipate bigger crowds than ever this year.

"Families are going to want to spend as little money as possible driving elsewhere to experience Halloween," said Jan Glasband, artistic director of Actors' Repertory Theater, which produces the show. "They will want to stay local. People want something low-cost, family friendly and educational. The Ghost Tour is the perfect place to do all of those things."

The entertaining ghosts are pioneers, pundits and sometimes prophets from Simi Valley and regional history.

"We'll have some ghosts returning from last year who are audience favorites," Glasband said. "We never know what other ghosts will show up."

Returning ghosts include Zalasuit, a Chumash Indian chief; Krishna Venta, a cult leader in the 1950s; and Crash Corrigan, founder of Corriganville.

The tour is a fundraiser for the Ventura County Cultural Association and the Simi Valley Historical Society. The society also helps organize the show.

The Ghost Tour will run weekends from Oct. 10 to 26. Hours are Fridays, 7 to 10 p.m.; Saturdays, 6 to 10 p.m.; and Sundays, 6 to 9 p.m.

Docent-led tours depart every 10 minutes and last about one and a quarter hours.

Tickets are $8. Strathearn Park is at 137 Strathearn Place, Simi Valley, just behind the old Kmart on Madera and Los Angeles Avenue.
