Community observance tonight at train stop

2008-09-19 / Community

A community observance remembering the victims of last week's Metrolink train collision will begin at 6:15 p.m. today, Sept. 19, at the Simi Valley Metrolink Station, 5050 Los Angeles Ave.

Information will be available regarding support resources for family and friends of crash victims as well as ways in which community members can help.

Representatives from the Ventura County chapter of the American Red Cross, United Blood Services and the Ventura County Fire Department will be on hand. Local service clubs will distribute ribbons in remembrance of those whose lives were lost and as a sign of support and hope for the recovery of those who were injured.

"The city of Simi Valley has received numerous telephone calls, emails and inquiries from community members, service clubs and businesses wanting to contribute and provide support to the families and individuals who have been impacted by this terrible tragedy," Mayor Paul Miller said. "This observance provides an opportunity for the community, friends, neighbors and Metrolink passengers to come together in support of the victims and their families."
