Park District gets new bus
Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District, in partnership with the Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley, recently purchased the K-Bus, a van for use in transporting young adults with developmental disabilities.
The district needed a large vehicle that could hold a group of alternative recreation program participants for field trips, excursions, educational activities and social events.
In January 2006, Kiwanis Club members contributed $20,000 toward the purchase of a vehicle and the district added $35,000 to complete the purchase.
The vehicle has also been used for senior and teen programs, along with staff transportation for educational purposes.
"The purchase of this van is a wonderful accomplishment that is the result of another great partnership," said Larry Peterson, park district general manager. "By combining resources, the Kiwanis Club and the park district have achieved more than each could have achieved individually. This collaboration will benefit our community for many years into the future, and we are proud to be a part of this."
The vehicle is decorated with artwork depicting people of all ages participating in park and recreation activities. The artwork was created by Dave High from Dave High Ink. Kenny Miller of ThumbPrint transferred the drawings onto decals which have been affixed to the sides, front and back of the vehicle.
The slogan above the cab says, "Delivering Fun For Everyone." The vehicle's name, KBus, recognizes the Kiwanis Club's participation in the project.
