Chabad of Simi Valley and the newly established Chabad of Moorpark will open a Sunday Hebrew School that will take place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. beginning Sept. 14 through the duration of the school year.

An open house will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Sun., Sept. 7 at the school's center, 4464 Alamo St., Simi Valley. All are invited to learn more about this program as well as meet the teachers, participate in arts and crafts, and talk with other Jewish families.

The Chabad Hebrew School is open to every Jew, regardless of religious background or level of observance. This school does not require any membership or prior affiliations as a condition for enrollment.

Chabad Hebrew School has been open in Simi Valley for more than 10 years.

Devorah Heidingsfeld, the new director of the school, will initiate the nationally acclaimed Aleph Champion Program, a method for learning to read Hebrew based on the martial arts motivational philosophy of colorcoded levels and testing to inspire students.

"We want our students to view Judaism in an intelligent, relevant and upbeat light," Heidingsfeld said. "We want them to know that being Jewish can be fun."
