Take part in coastal clean up day
2008-08-29 / Family
The 24th annual Coastal Cleanup Day will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Sat., Sept. 20 along the beaches, shorelines and inland waterways of California.
Cleanups will take place at more than 750 sites on state beaches, bays, rivers, creeks, parks, roadsides and highways.
Last year, 61,122 volunteers collected nearly 1 million pounds of trash and recyclables from more than 2,400 miles of shoreline around the state.
With 48 counties out of 58 taking part, the 2007 cleanup had the largest geographic reach in event history.
