12 vehicles impounded during DUI checkpoint

The Simi Valley Police Department conducted a sobriety and licensing checkpoint from 8:30 p.m. until midnight Fri., Aug. 22 on Cochran Street just west of Galena Avenue.

During the evening, 629 motorists were briefly detained and asked to present their driver's license. None were arrested for driving under the influence.

A 20yearold from Simi Valley was arrested for driving with a suspended license.

A total of 32 citations were issued, including 13 for unlicensed drivers. A passenger in one vehicle was cited for knowingly allowing her unlicensed 17yearold daughter to drive the vehicle.

Twelve vehicles were stored or impounded.

The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the Traffic Safety Center at UC Berkeley.
