Public invited to get rare look inside Simi police headquarters

Cops celebrating 10 years at Alamo Street facility

The Simi Valley Police Department will host a community open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sat., Sept. 20 at 3901 Alamo St.

This year marks the 10-year anniversary of the opening of the police facility in October 1998.

Mayor Paul Miller will preside over a ribbon cutting ceremony, unveiling the police department historical committee's new exhibit of equipment and photographs depicting the department's history, which goes back to 1971.

Police department volunteers will conduct tours of the police building throughout the day. The canine unit, disaster service workers and bomb squad will give demonstrations.

Families are encouraged to attend. A Jolly Jumper will be available for children.

The Crime Prevention Unit will hold drawings for bicycles, helmets and vehicle security locks.

The Simi Valley Police Foundation will host a family-style barbecue. Members of the Simi Valley Elks Lodge No. 2492 will prepare and serve food and drinks to all in attendance.

Guests may view displays of SWAT equipment, crime prevention unit, police recruiters, police motorcycles, mobile command center, STTOP trailer, disaster service workers and more.

Partnering agencies will also have displays, including Ventura County Fire Department, Ventura County Sheriff's Department bomb squad, California Highway Patrol, American Medical Response ambulance service, Ventura County Probation Department, Simi Valley Coalition, Rancho Simi Parks and Recreation District rangers and others.
