DUI checkpoint tonight
Four sobriety checkpoints are in the works for the next two weekends in Ventura County as Avoid the 14 cracks down on impaired drivers, according to Senior Officer Humberto Jimenez of the Oxnard Police Department and Avoid the 14 campaign coordinator.
Simi Valley police plan one for tonight, according to Lt. Joseph May.
Another is set for Saturday in Moorpark with police officers from the Moorpark Police Department and the Moorpark office of the California Highway Patrol.
The Labor Day weekend will see one in Ventura on Friday and the second in Port Hueneme on Saturday.
Avoid the 14, a combined effort named for all 14 law enforcement agencies in Ventura County, arrested 88 DUI suspects over last year's Labor Day weekend. The county had no DUI deaths.
