Armed robber hits mall jewelry store
Police are still looking for two suspects in connection with an armed robbery that occurred Monday at a jewelry store at the Simi Valley Town Center.
According to police, a man entered Ben Bridge Jewelers just prior to closing time around 8:48 p.m., confronted the store clerk with a handgun and demanded the clerk hand over jewelry. The clerk complied.
As the man fled towards the exit carrying the stolen merchandise in a bag, another employee tried to grab the jewelry away from him, inadvertently causing the suspect to drop his handgun, police said. He then fled the store and met up with another man who was waiting outside in a getaway car.
According to police, no shots were fired and no injuries were sustained in the robbery. A search of the area led police to discover the get-away car abandoned in a restaurant parking lot near the intersection of Madera Road and CochranStreet.
Both suspects were described as male, African-American, about 25 years old, 5-feet-7-inches tall and 140 pounds.
The investigation is ongoing. Police would not say the value of the stolen jewelry.
