A Simi Valley man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly carjacked his ex-girlfriend's car and led police on a 15-minute chase that began in the east end of Simi and ended in the San Fernando Valley.

Scott Mcvey, 22, was booked on charges of carjacking, felony evading and two counts of misdemeanor hit-and-run after he was stopped in Chatsworth.

According to a police report, around 8:44 a.m. on Sunday, Simi Valley patrol officers spotted a vehicle traveling eastbound on Los Angeles Avenue near Tapo Street at a high rate of speed.

As they turned to follow the car to initiate a traffic stop, officers noticed that the car's left front tire was flat and smoking.

Mcvey slowed for traffic and then maneuvered around cars and ran several red lights as officers pursued, police said.

After the car lost its tire on Kuehner Drive, police followed Mcvey through the Santa Susana Pass and into the San Fernando Valley.

He traveled in a small circle in the northwest corner of the valley before his vehicle came to a halt in the middle of the roadway at Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Santa Susana Pass Road as he attempted to double back.

"The car basically fell apart," police spokesman Sgt. Adam Darough said.

After the pursuit, police said, they took Mcvey into custody without incident.

Further investigation led officers to determine that Mcvey stole the vehicle by force from his ex-girlfriend, a 19-year-old Simi Valley woman.

According to police, before he was spotted Mcvey had been involved in two hitandrun accidents—one at Fitzgerald and Appleton roads, and the second at Sequoia and Royal avenues.

Mcvey is being held at Ventura County Main Jail on $100,000 bail.
