Injured cyclist and family say thanks

2008-08-08 / Letters

"Wow" is all we can say to describe the fundraiser for Pat Myhr (Simi Valley Acorn, July 25).

There are too many people to thank personally, so I hope this gets to all of you who helped organize and implement this special day.

Sunday, July 27 the Junkyard Cafe graciously opened its doors for business from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. for an event that went beyond our expectations.

From the time the doors opened until closing the seats were filled, and the friends, strangers and those who just wanted to help kept coming. We were all overwhelmed with the outpouring of generosity, contributions and camaraderie.

We had gifts donated for the raffle, nonstop food and drink, music supplied by Rock Bottom and Mole's and even a couple of Miller Girls, who all donated their time to help our brother Pat get through this unfortunate time in his life.

We saw old friends, met new friends and just enjoyed all the friends who took the time out of their busy schedules to be there for Pat. Even in this economy, where times are tough for all of us, they rallied around and came through for our brother. For that, we thank you all.

And as an added surprise, Pat came for a visit; the hospital allowed him out for a couple hours so he could witness the outpouring of generosity, friendship and hometown commitment in his honor.

He looked good for a while but eventually had to leave as the pain began to set in. He was able to give his thank-you in person and get a glimpse of what was done in his honor. He, too, was overwhelmed.

A very special thank-you goes to Evelyn Falato, the Queen Bee, and Tony Falato, the Head Honcho, owners of the Junkyard Cafe and our new friends, who so graciously allowed us their time, help and restaurant to host this wonderful event.

Thank you, old friends; thank you, new friends; thank you, local businesses, and most of all, thank you, Junkyard Cafe. Renee Frank Simi Valley
