Relive Simi's roots at Strathearn Park Pioneer History Day
The Strathearn Historical Park presents Pioneer History Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23 at 137 Strathearn Place in Simi Valley.
Family friendly activities include ongoing performances, demonstrations, special displays, games, food and a chance to tour the historical buildings on site.
There will be nonstop activities throughout the day provided by Simi Valley Model A Ford Club, San Fernando Valley Model T Club, Western Antique Power Association, Rusty Relics, Topa Topa Flywheelers, Valley Flywheelers, Simi Settlers Amateur Radio Club and horseshoeing demonstrations.
Simi Valley Kiwanis will provide food from the Chuck Wagon Barbecue.
Two special performances are scheduled:
•Dorothea Phelan from the Museum of Ventura County presents a Living History reenactment of a "Victorian stripper" at 1 p.m. in the Visitors Center.
Phelan will perform as a pretentious mistress with her ditzy maid as they share a historical perspective on their social mores while the fashions of the day are shed.
This performance is suitable for all ages.
•Fred Godfrey's 18-member band Jazz 'N Banjos will play a barn dance at 2 p.m. in the big barn. All ages can participate, and table seating is available for those who do not dance.
Admission is $7 at the gate and includes all activities.
