City attorney to retire
David Hirsch Simi Valley City Attorney David Hirsch has announced his retirement effective Dec. 30, capping a 31year career in municipal law.
Hirsch was appointed city attorney in April 1998. Prior to the appointment he was city attorney for Lompoc for 17 years.
From 1978 to 1981 he was an attorney in the Simi Valley city attorney's office, first as a deputy and then as the assistant city attorney.
He has served as a member of the Municipal Law Handbook editorial board. He has been active in the City Attorney's Department of the League of California Cities, having served as president in 1998.
As the city attorney, Hirsch served as legal counsel for the City Council and worked with the city manager and department heads on the implementation and legality of many projects. He was also involved in the development of changes to the municipal code.
Hirsch earned a bachelor's degree from Cal State Dominguez Hills, a master's degree in public administration from USC and a juris doctorate from Syracuse University College of Law.
The City Council will openly recruit for Hirsch's replacement, who will likely be appointed near the end of the year.
