City attorney to retire
      Simi Valley City Attorney David Hirsch has announced his retirement effective Dec. 30, capping a 31year career in municipal law. Hirsch was appointed city attorney in April 1998. Prior to the appointment he was city attorney for Lompoc for 17 years.

Stabbing victim in hospital
      Anton Paslavskyy, 25, of Simi Valley was the victim of a stabbing that occurred at 12:45 a.m. July 28. According to police reports, Simi Valley police officers responded to 1766-C First St. to assist the fire department with Paslavskyy, who was bleeding profusely in the parking lot. He had suffered a stab wound to the right upper leg.

Local moms unite to fight hunger in Southern California
      A group of Conejo Valley mothers have formed "No Hunger At Home," a charitable group composed of moms who collect food from area residents for distribution among hungry families throughout Southern California.

Telethon seeks local volunteers
      The Muscular Dystrophy Association's 43rd Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon will broadcast live on KCAL 9 in Los Angeles from 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31 to 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1. The association is seeking telethon volunteers from civic and community service organizations. Mailroom volunteers and positions answering phones and taking pledges are needed.

Mentoring program helps prepare foster teens for life outside system
Big Brothers, Big Sisters receive grant
      Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County have received a oneyear grant to set up a countywide mentoring program for 20 female foster youth ages 15 to 18. The grant, for $10,000, was provided by the United Women's Leadership Council, a humanitarian volunteer group associated with United Way of Ventura County.

      The Valiant Men Ministries of Simi Valley hosted the third annual Charity Car Show on July 12 at the Simi Valley Town Center. Visitors had an opportunity to view an eclectic variety of hot rods, classic automobiles, muscle cars, low riders, trucks, motorcycles, and other vintage vehicles.
