Not impressed with fireworks enforcement
      I read the letter from Simi Police Chief Mike Lewis in the Acorn July 18 and I would like to comment. He tried to make it sound as if he was making an impact on the reduction in fireworks in Simi Valley on the Fourth of July. He certainly was not in my neck of the woods because it was unbearable for my family, my pets and neighbors.

Drivers need to be reminded red light means stop
      I have been in Simi Valley for some time now, and I thought the drivers in the San Fernando Valley were bad. What I have seen and what I am very concerned about is the problem of motorists that continue to go through a left-hand turn signal long after it has changed to red.

Donations could be better spent
      It's touching that young Andrew and his family want to save a dog's life ("Family Needs Money to Save Pet Dog," July 20 Acorn ). My own son brought me a rescued kitten a few years ago, whose vet bills have totaled hundreds of dollars so far, with a recent estimate of $1,200 to do an operation that might give him a few more years.
