Elks host karaoke, create Simi-based cookbook

The Simi Valley Elks will hold their first karaoke event from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 20 at the lodge, 1561 Kuehner Drive.

There is no cost to participate. Food and beverages will be offered for sale.

Rick Adams will serve as DJ and karaoke leader.

Also, the Elks have published their own cookbook, which sells for $10.

The book is full of recipes written by members and their wives, children and grandchildren. All recipes are by Simi Valley residents.

Various events coming up at the Simi Town Center

A free outdoor screening of "Blades of Glory" will be held at 8 p.m. Monday, July 21 at Simi Valley Town Center.

The movie will be projected onto a 24-foot inflatable screen. Blankets and low chairs for seating are permitted.

The Jeff Jenson Band will perform at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 24 at the Town Center. The group plays standards and original blues songs.

Toastmasters install new officers

The Simi Valley Toastmasters Club 3533 held an installation of officers for their July-December club year July 3 at Vintage Senior Living in Simi Valley.

The officers are Noushad Abdul, president; Greg Seymour, vice president education; Cheryl Wronski, vice president membership; Michele Wilson, vice president public relations; Joy Gaylord, secretary; Tom Reilly, treasurer; and Vijay Kumar, sergeant-at-arms.

The club meets at 7:30 p.m. every Thursday at Vintage Senior Living, 5300 E. Los Angeles Ave. Guests are always welcome.

Golf tournament in Moorpark benefits cancer society

The inaugural Relay for Life Golf Tournament will be held Thursday, July 24 at the Moorpark Country Club.

Cost to enter the tournament is $200, which includes green fees, golf cart, box lunch and entry into a post-event dinner and auction.

Registration is at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start at 11.
