It's carnival time again at St. Rose

FILE PHOTO FILE PHOTO St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church will host the annual Family Carnival from July 18 to 20 on the school grounds of the parish, 1305 Royal Ave., Simi Valley.

The carnival is open to the public from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, July 18; 2 to 11 p.m. Saturday, July 19, and 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 20.

The carnival features rides for all ages, such as a Ferris wheel, Zipper, roller coaster and the Himalaya, among others. Ride bracelets will be available each day for $20 on Friday, $15 on Saturday and Sunday if purchased before 5 p.m., and $20 after 5 p.m.

The carnival raffle drawing on Sunday evening will award a grand prize of a sevenday Mexican Cruise for two. Second prize is a widescreen TV and third prize is a Nintendo Wii. Raffle tickets are $1 each or $25 for a booklet of 30 tickets.

Midway games will offer more than $10,000 in prizes, including giant stuffed toys, skateboards and inflatables.

Live entertainment includes the Na Hoaloha O Polynesian Fire Dancers, Royal High School Jazz Band, Claddagh Irish Dancers, cloggers, bagpipes and Ed Lafatta & The Unforgettables.

The food court will serve hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken teriyaki, noodles, cotton candy, churros, popcorn, sno cones, ice cream, cold drinks, desserts and carnitas as traditionally prepared since the festival began more than 50 years ago.

The air-conditioned Le Club will offer munchies, live entertainment and a wine and cheese tasting. The beer garden will serve adult beverages.

The bookstore will provide pre-owned books at low prices.

Admission is $2 for adults and free for children under 13 and senior citizens 65 and over. Overflow parking is available across the street at Royal High School.

Event proceeds will assist the parish in its charitable work.
