A person's vehicle is private property

2008-07-04 / Letters

I think that it is absurd that we need a law prohibiting the placing of fliers on vehicles since it should be obvious that such actions are unacceptable. I also think that if you do get a flier on your vehicle, you should not throw it on the ground as that is littering and two wrongs do not make it right.

Unfortunately, such a law is needed because of people like Peter Carrube, who do not understand that they have no constitutional right to touch other people's vehicles without permission and that people don't need to post a sign to prevent such violations and that they don't have to post signs in order to have a right to complain.

It is offensive when Peter Carrube thinks that he can violate the rights of others because of some claimed positive benefit he brings to the community.

Positive benefits do not create a license to behave badly and violate the rights of others. In addition, he ignores the majority of us who don't respond and don't want his fliers. Aren't the rights and desires of the majority important?

Could it be considered trespassing when someone puts fliers on vehicles, instead of shopping, since it is private property and permission to pass is based on shopping at the stores?

He is free to post a sign everywhere saying that he does not want all of this done to him and only then, based on his own words, would he have a right to complain about it.
