Apollo High School standout seniors
Casey Jordan, daughter of Tom and Ann Jordan, was recognized as salutatorian of her graduating classdespite missing six months of school to give birth to and care for a son.
Casey took part in Apollo's minor parent program, where she volunteered as a teacher's assistant in the nursery. She participated in gymnastics and worked at McDonalds.
The 17yearold said her favorite class was senior psychology.
She hopes to attend Moorpark College and transfer to California Lutheran University to earn her teaching credential. Casey is inspired by her son to remain focused in her studies.
"My son has influenced me the most in my life," she said, "and he is the reason I am and will always be successful."
Stephanie Lieb
Stephanie Lieb, daughter of Linda Demeter and Don Lieb, is valedictorian of the Class of 2008.
Throughout high school Stephanie has volunteered to help many different groups. She's donated her time to the Union Rescue Mission, Relay for Life, homes for seniors and community fairs. She also participated in Safe School Ambassadors, Leadership and other clubs.
Stephanie Lieb The 17-year-old, who was a member of the swim team for two years, excelled in her English classes.
"I see myself with a great career- I do not know what that is now- but I'll discover that over the next few years," Stephanie said when asked where she sees herself in 10 years. "I see myself happy and proud of the choices I made to get where I am."
Anthony Andrade
Anthony Andrade, son of Lorena Arias, participated in wrestling, cross country and the art club at Apollo.
A volunteer at his church in Fillmore, Anthony said his favorite school subjects were military history, art and chemistry.
The 17yearold hopes to attend Moorpark College for two years before transferring to California Lutheran University to study criminal justice and psychology. He would eventually like to become a SWAT officer.
Anthony Andrade "My family has had the biggest influence in my life up to this point," Anthony said. "They have helped me through the hardest times in my life these past months and they are the reason I am alive today."
Ahmad Oomerjee
Ahmad Oomerjee, 19, son of Rashid and Guisnan Oomerjee, was involved in the Leadership program at Apollo, helping to beautify the school while excelling in favorite classes like biology, history and government. The graduate also participated in a multicultural club.
Ahmad would like to attend Moorpark College before transferring to a four-year university and studying business.
He said the biggest influences in his life are his grandpa, his teachers and his counselor.
"I see myself doing a job that I really love," Ahmad said. "My career job would be making me and the people I respect happy. I believe if you really love a job, then money won't be a problem."
Corey Weissman
Corey Weissman, son of Chuck Weissman, works after school as an instructor at Tigon Martial Arts in Simi Valley. He originally volunteered at the studio and now teaches there six hours a day, five days a week.
Ahmad Oomerjee The 17-year-old entered Apollo a year behind in his studies but still earned his diploma and graduated Thursday. Corey would like to continue working at Tigon after high school and pursue a business degree at Cal State-Northridge. He hopes to own his own martial arts studio one day.
Corey's favorite class this year was personal finance with Marvin Remster.
"I loved (that class) because I like learning how to pay bills now while I don't have to, so that when I do have to, I'll be great at it," Corey said.
