Walk-athon raises funds for service dogs

2008-06-20 / Health & Wellness

A Doggie Walk-athon to raise funds for the purchase and care of diabetic alert service dogs will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 29 at Marina Park, 1901 Spinnaker Drive, Ventura.

The event is sponsored by Heaven Scent Paws, a nonprofit organization that provides "pawtners" for people with Type I diabetes by training diabetic alert service dogs . These canines detect and alert their human partner and support team (relatives, friends) when the partner has high or low blood sugar levels so that the person can seek medical help in time.

At the event, participants may walk their own dog or "adopt" a dog to walk with. Participants do not need to provide a dog.

All of the proceeds of this fundraiser will be donated to Heaven Scent Paws.
