True works of art
"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up."
- Pablo Picasso
This time, it's Dad's turn.
The Simi Valley Acorn proudly present kids' artwork of their fathers' faces in today's edition.
You can't miss them on pages 21 through 25- and you might find you can't put them down.
Some are colored with crayons while others are black and white sketches. We let the children decide what to do and how to do it, and, unlike adults, they didn't need a lot of instruction. They grabbed whatever they had and went to work.
We weren't disappointed with the results, which involved quality and quantity.
The turnout this year was wonderful. More than 200 entries in all were sent in to the Simi Valley Acorn- and we're publishing every one of them.
Barbecues, new tools and flashy electronics seem to have become fashionable Father's Day gift ideas, but
nothing beats the handmade art project created by our little ones with big hearts.
Most of the dads, we suspect, are far more handsome in reality than they are in their portraits. Artists, of course, are always at liberty to interpret the appearance of their subjects.
Dads, take a moment to pat
yourselves on the back. There are few jobs in this world, if any, more challenging than being a parent.
Sunday is a wonderful time to take a moment to call, visit or simply write to your pop.
In the meantime, enjoy the following gallery of portraits by Simi Valley's youngest artists.
They'll be sure to put a smile on your face.
