Teach kids how to stay safe during the summertime

It's the busiest time for us, with the number of kids coming in with injuries doubling, and at times tripling, and when we're busy in the Emergency Department of Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, it means children are at risk, often life-threatening.

Car seats for kids are a must
      The widespread use of car seats for children has reduced the number of injuries and fatalities on American roads, but experts agree that more needs to be done. "Every state requires that children under the age of 4 are secured while riding in a car," said Ray Palermo, director of public information for Teachers' Insurance Plan.

Nar-anon family group meets every Saturday
      The Simi Valley Nar-Anon Family Group meets at 7:30 p.m. every Saturday night in room 10 at the United Methodist Church, 2394 Erringer Road, Simi Valley. This is a 12-step support group for the friends and families of drug addicts. For the past five years, hundreds of residents have learned from the experiences of others how to deal with the addicts in their lives.

Hospital to host heart health fair
      Simi Valley Hospital will host "Seven Keys To A Healthy Heart" health fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21 at the hospital, 2975 N. Sycamore Drive, Simi Valley. The event will include free heart healthy screenings and information to keep the heart fit and healthy.
