Kindness of Gallegly staff won veteran's vote

2008-05-30 / Letters

Since retiring from the U.S. Army and Hughes Company years ago, I have occasionally found a need for certain records from the Military Personnel Records facility in St. Louis.

After requesting records from MPR it took several weeks to be notified that the records of Army and Air Force personnel may have been destroyed in a major fire at that facility on July 12, 1973.

I then gave up the pursuit.

On Oct. 5 2006 I contacted my 24th District Congressman, Elton Gallegly, at his T.O. office, spoke to one of his congressional aides, Myrna Vafee, and obtained an appointment to visit her office and bring my Military I.D. and request for desired records.

On Oct. 20 aide Myrna Vafee placed a call to my home stating my records arrived at her office and were ready for pick-up.

During this period Congressman Gallegly was at his Washington D.C. office.

Being a partlially disabled combat veteran of WWII, and the Korean War (Conflict), I was unable to drive to T.O. for the records at that time.

Myrna, also a Simi Valley resident, volunteered to bring and drop off records my home after work.

At about 5:30 p.m. a new SUV driven by Myrna stopped in front of my driveway and handed me a thickly wrapped bundle of records, an example proving how the "Gallegly team" of the 24th District cares for citizens of his district regardless of how small or huge acts of kindness.

I have been a registered Independent voter since 20. Now at 87 on June 9, I have joined the "Gallegly team" and will vote for our leader as a Republican next week.

This switch was due to the kindness shown to everyone by Congressman Gallegly, his wife Janice and congressional aides Myrna and Paula.

Please join us team members in casting your needed vote for Congressman Elton Gallegly on June 3.

Thanks everyone. P.S. We can't afford to lose his proven leadership- ever! Larry Faulkner Simi Valley
