Anti-Gallegly letter considered libelous and accusatory

2008-05-30 / Letters

This is in response to the letter titled "Pro-Tenenbaum signs go missing," published in the May 16 Simi Valley Acorn.

What is really outrageous is Inez Tapia's libelous statements towards Elton Gallegly and the fact that the Acorn decided to print such obviously false statements. The Acorn, at least, owes an apology to Gallegly and the readers of the paper.

Tapia makes claims which there is absolutely no evidence of. Where is one shred of proof that Gallegly had anything to do with the missing signs? Nor is there any proof that it was any of his "followers."

It could be anyone, including kids or people who just don't like yard signs, who took the sign, if it even happened at all as it seems to be more of an attack/smear campaign than anything else. To jump to the conclusion that Gallegly and his followers are disrespectful of the democratic process is just absurd, and there is no proof of that.

In addition, Tapia goes on to say, "Is Gallegly so scared that he is resorting to trespassing and theft to keep his throne for another two years?"

This is obviously a false statement and in addition it is a claim of criminal activity, which clearly makes it libel. Is there any proof that Gallegly was even in Fillmore on the day the signs turned up missing? Are there any witnesses?

The letter seems to be proof that Tapia is disrespectful of the democratic process, as well unaware of being innocent until proven guilty.

If the signs were removed, then those responsible should be punished, but to jump to conclusions and make false/dishonest/libelous claims is wrong and Tapia should be punished for her activities.

Personally, this does not reflect well for Tenenbaum to have such dishonest people supporting him, but that is not his fault. Ken Sandberg Simi Valley
