Intersection badly in need of signal

In response to "Signal Planned for Tapo CanyonTownship Corner (Simi Valley Acorn, May 16)."

Safety is a major priority in this city; that is why we keep adding new traffic lights, but the intersections which are of constant concern are not being taken care of.

One such is the intersection between Alamo and Reservoir.

There have been countless accidents at this intersection where people drive well over the 45 mph speed limit.

Besides the high speeds, since Alamo Street has tall palm trees lined up in a row on the divide, it makes it very difficult to see turning left onto Alamo. The blind spots here are just too large to ignore. While turning left, you have a minuscule view of oncoming traffic which gives you just a quick second to decide if it is safe to turn.

The fact is, you can never be sure if it is absolutely safe; it will always be a gamble, and gambling with your life is something we shouldn't have to endure.

It is well understood that traffic lights cost money- $173,062 dollars worth. But in an age when safety is becoming ever more a main priority, there should be no price to save people's lives.

Since I frequently use this left turn, which I try to avoid if at all possible, this could even be saving my life. So if every person is worth more than $173,062, which I believe they are, then saving lives should be much more important than the amount of money.

The City Council should immediately begin to take into concern the intersection at Alamo and Reservoir. We need a traffic light. Jessica Chess Simi Valley
