Collision on 118 Freeway sends vehicle 300 feet down embankment
During a vehicle collision, a car ran off the 118 Freeway on May 15 at 10:30 a.m.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Carmela Montero, 20, of Simi Valley, was driving a blue Toyota Scion westbound in the fast lane on the 118 west of Rocky Peak at an unknown speed. For reasons that are under investigation, the Toyota traveled out of control across lanes, where it collided with a 2006 Isuzu box truck driven by Michael Dunbar, 46, of Bell Gardens.
The Isuzu traveled to the right across the shoulder, through the guard rail and 300 feet down the right shoulder embankment.
Dunbar was extricated from the truck by the Ventura County Fire Department and then transported to Holy Cross Hospital. The extent of Dunbar's injuries is unknown at this time. Witnesses to the collision are urged to call Officer J. Wood at the Moorpark CHP office at (805) 553-0800.
