SVHS softball team breaks county record
      With a 5-1 victory over Moorpark High Tuesday, the Simi Valley softball team established a new Ventura County record with its 22nd consecutive win to begin the season. According to Pioneer head coach Russ Michael, the previous record of 21 straight wins was set by Buena High in 1989.

     JANN HENDRY/Acorn Newspapers BRING IT BACK- Simi Valley High third baseman Kyle Raskin goes into the Pioneers' dugout to catch a foul ball in the top of the seventh inning Wednesday against Thousand Oaks. Despite Raskin's effort, the Pioneers were defeated by the Lancers, 8-1. Simi Valley (16-7 overall, 8-2 in the Marmonte League) now has a one-game lead over TOHS (15-9, 7-3 in league) and Royal (17-6, 7-3) in the chase for a Marmonte title.

Pioneer star Jackson taking his game to Pepperdine
      Simi Valley High senior point guard Lorne Jackson has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Pepperdine University. Jackson is Simi Valley's alltime leader in career steals (302) and charges taken (47).

      Simi Valley resident Kara Denby was part of the USA women's 4x100 medley relay team that established a new shortcourse world record during the ninth FINA World Swimming Championships in Manchester, England, on April 11.

Annual swim meet draws 32 schools and more than 1,000 participants
      Before Josh Mlakar passed away from cancer in 1990, one of his final wishes was to not be forgotten in the swimming community. It's safe to assume that if he could've seen what took place Saturday at Rancho Simi Community Park pool, Mlakar would have been satisfied.
