Lecture to address wildlife
      The Moorpark College Biology Department's Gary Ogden Memorial Lecture and The Year of the Environment will present a free lecture open to the public, "Carnivores on the Fringe" from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 29 in the Main Stage, Performing Arts Center, 7075 Campus Road.

Board wants Simi schools to keep parents involved

      It's no secret that parents play a vital role in their children's education. To this end, one of the primary goals of the Simi Valley School Board this year is to increase parent involvement. At last Tuesday's board meeting, members heard from the principals of two Simi elementary schools that are working hard toward that goal.

Teens operate prom dress exchange

      Students in Patti Myszkowski's peer helping class at Royal High School want to make this year special- not for themselves, but for their classmates. They're organizing a formal dress exchange, wherein students are encouraged to donate or loan dresses for the upcoming prom to peers who can't afford to purchase them.

Community colleges taking summer/fall registration
      Students can enroll at Moorpark, Oxnard and Ventura colleges and complete a fullsemester class in four weeks during the summer. Four-week summer sessions begin May 21, and six, sevenand eight-week sessions begin June 18 at all campuses.

Admission Update
      Every year we hear about record numbers of students applying to college, and the latest round of statistics is sure to raise anxiety levels once again. University of California broke a record for the fourth year in a row, receiving 121,005 applications for the fall 2008 term. That's a 9 percent increase in just the last year.
