      I am a soldier currently serving as a medic in Iraq, south of Baghdad. I wanted to take the time to thank everyone who has spent time and money on supporting troops. Thank you for the care packages, letters and pictures; they really do make a big difference for everyone here.

In defense of Accelerated Reading
      This is in response to a March 14 letter which attacked Simi Valley Unified School District's use of the Accelerated Reader, or AR, program in our schools. The author prefaced her comments with disclaimers saying her facts do not apply to all Simi schools.

Let's ease the rhetoric about Cornerstone
      In response to the letter from Margie Roblin in last week's Acorn , Cornerstone Church is being given anything but a free pass. Cornerstone has not asked for extensions except for where they are warranted by the commission's missing of deadlines themselves.
