Out-of-town thieves get busted with stolen property
Two men from the San Fernando Valley were arrested Tuesday in Simi after police said they were found to be in possession of thousands of dollars worth of stolen tools and construction equipment.
According to police, Juan Perez, 22, of North Hills and Alejandro Ramirez, 26, of Panorama City were pulled over around 2:50 a.m. for failing to stop at a red light at the corner of Sequoia and Royal avenues.
During the subsequent traffic stop, the officer discovered the vehicle was loaded with 20 items of stolen equipment, later estimated to be worth $10,000.
Police said assisting officers were able to identify the owners of the property, who then came on scene and identified the stolen goods as theirs.
Further investigation, police said, revealed the items had been taken during several vehicle burglaries that night from two residential areas in Simi Valley.
Perez and Ramirez were arrested and charged with theft and possession of stolen property, and were booked in Ventura County Main Jail.
SVPD detectives will conduct followup investigations to determine if the two arrested men were responsible for any other thefts.
