Luck be a lady: Resident banks big bucks on 'Wheel of Fortune'
      "I'm behind you." That's a phrase Simi Valley resident Michelle Franklin will probably never forget. Had she been able to come up with those three little words- using the five consonants and a vowel she was provided- Franklin would have won $40,000 during an episode of the world-famous game show "Wheel of Fortune" that aired last Friday.

Job fair gives youths a taste of what's out there
      The Youth Employment Services Advisory Board is organizing its 22nd job fair this Saturday, April 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club of Simi Valley. Samantha Argabrite, youth council coordinator, said 25 businesses will set up booths seeking to attract young people ages 16 to 22 looking for parttime or summer jobs.

YMCA selects new executive director
      Daniel Jaeger is the new executive director of the Simi Valley Family YMCA. He is responsible for overseeing operations of the 25,000-square-foot facility that serves more than 7,500 Simi Valley residents. Jaeger was previously the district executive director of the YMCA in Greenville, S.C., where he was responsible for two YMCA branches.

Plenty planned for Kiwanis Blues Fest
      Write4Hope and Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley will present the third annual Blues Festival from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 26 at Oak County Park, 901 Quimisa Drive, Simi Valley. Heading the lineup will be electric guitarist Robben Ford, who received his fifth nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album of the Year for his CD "Truth.

Bowled over with generosity
     FOR SOUP OR CEREAL- Anne Caputo, middle, looks at the various bowls for sale during Many Mansions' "Bowls of Hope Project" held at The Vineyards in Simi Valley on Sunday. Proceeds from the fundraising event go to Many Mansions' services such as emergency food assistance, teen club and an after-school literacy program.       The Peace Officer's Association of Ventura County will host the 35th annual Medal of Valor Awards banquet on Saturday, April 19 at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, 40 Presidential Drive, Simi Valley. At the event, local police officers and citizens who perform heroic acts will be recognized.
