Grace Brethren performing well, too

March couldn't have gone any better for the Simi Valley High softball team.

With three wins on Tuesday, the Pioneers improved their overall record to 11-0. At 2-0 in the Marmonte League, SVHS is in a three-way tie for first place with Royal and Thousand Oaks.

Through the first 10 games of the year, the Pioneer offense has been fueled by shortstop Sam Fischer, who, according to MaxPreps.com, leads the league in home runs (five), RBI (13) and slugging percentage (1.20). The senior's .467 batting average is tops on the team.

Fischer isn't the only Pioneer who's been stellar at the plate. Ali Mapes, Brianna Stephan, Jessica Soria, Amber Olive, Rebecca Grant, Heather Cook and Haley Thomas are all batting above .300. As a team, SVHS is hitting .351.

Simi Valley's pitching has been solid as well, thanks to the combination of Amanda Oliveto and Kelli-jo Killingsworth. Oliveto has an ERA of .724, while Killingsworth's ERA is at 1.40. The pitchers' control has been phenomenal- the duo has combined to walk only eight batters in 64 innings.

Grace Brethren's softball team hasn't been too shabby either. The Lancers have gotten off to a 103 start, 01 in the TriValley League.

GBHS has been swinging the bats well, as evidenced by its .394 team batting average. The Lancers have two players, Ashley Rice and Kassy Dunn, hitting over .500. Rice is batting .596 with 21 RBI, while Dunn leads the team with three home runs. She's batting .556.

Five other Grace Brethren players- Kelsey Dillon, Brianna Hardy, Jamie Garcia, Brianne Lundgren and Brianna Thompson- are hitting above .300.

Grace Brethren's pitching has been led by the duo of Tayler Suterko and Dunn, who's combined ERA is 1.70. Dunn is 8-2 and has struck out 85 batters in 51 innings.
