Make prostitution legal
With the recent events regarding Gov. Spitzer, I'll ask once again, "Why is it a crime to do for money that which is legal to do for free?"
None of the arguments against prostitution, i.e. immorality, degradation and abuse of women, are valid.
Many consider adultery and promiscuity to be immoral. Yet these are perfectly legal, if done for free.
As for degradation, many see it as degrading for a Southern Baptist bride to promise submission and obedience to her husband. Yet this, too, is legal.
And the abuses to women in the sex trade are actually brought about by lawenforcement's forcing this industry underground. To blame this abuse on prostitution makes as much sense as blaming spousal abuse on marriage.
Laws are supposed to combat crime not turn consenting adults into criminals. Lloyd Forrester Simi Valley
