Soccer fundraiser kicks up a crowd
     Photos by WENDY PIERRO/Acorn Newspapers LOOKIE THERE- Simi Valley residents and friends Lisa Noack and Bob Hector, above left, look at items for bid at the Royal High Boys' Soccer Boosters fourth annual comedy night and silent auction held Thursday, Jan. 17 at the Grand Vista Hotel in Simi Valley. Noack was bidding on autographed photos of cast members from the show "Desperate Housewives" and said she intended to hang the photos in her shop, Laser Creations, in Simi. At right, Karyn Newbill and Julie Hoffman tally winners of silent auction items in front of a collection of Highlander T-shirts. More than 100 items were auctioned off to help raise money for the RHS boys' soccer program. The event also included a dinner and comedy performances.

      Searching for a restaurant in Camarillo that serves more that barbecue and steaks, I stumbled upon a terrific place in a small strip center just off Carmen Drive at the 101: Sheila's Place, wine bar and restaurant. Not really knowing what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised.

Artist's works to be on display
      Ines Blesilda "Bessie" Jacinto's impressionist paintings will be featured in February at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, 3050 Los Angeles Ave. The public is invited to an artist's reception on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the center.

      The Student Government Board of Moorpark College will host its annual talent show starting at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1 in the campus Performing Arts Center, 7075 Campus Road. The event is free and the public is invited.
