Santa Su High recognized by U.S. News and World Report
      Several local high schools have been recognized as the best in the country, according to the latest ranking by U.S. News and World Report . Out of nearly 19,000 public high schools analyzed by the magazine, Oak Park, Westlake, Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Newbury Park and Santa Susana High in Simi Valley were among 405 schools to earn a silver ranking.

Latin music contest seeks student applications
Entries must be received by Jan. 15
      Organizers at the Ventura Music Festival will select one high school student to play on stage with Latin jazz legend Poncho Sanchez on Feb. 16 in the Student Jazz Competition. The contest is open to all students proficient in instruments appropriate for a Latin jazz band, such as horn, percussion and wind.

Parent info night upcoming at Royal High School
      Royal High School will present a parent information evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14 in the school's multipurpose room, 1402 Royal Ave., Simi Valley. School counselors will present a program on "Navigating high school: the fouryear plan" to help students graduate successfully.
