Local Rotarians take children on a holiday shopping spree

The Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise recently gave gifts of clothing to 12 boys and girls ages 6 to 12 who were chosen for citizenship or academic achievement awards at their elementary schools.

The Rotarians sponsored a holiday shopping spree at Kohl's department store for the youths.

Each child received $200 worth of clothing, and Kohl's offered a 15 percent discount on all purchases.

The Rotary Club has hosted the shopping spree each year since December 2001. The club donates $2,400 to finance the project.

The money for this event, and for the many other community programs that the club supports, is raised during the club's annual Cajun Creole Music Festival.
