Jewish Genealogical Society to hold first meeting of '08

The Jewish Genealogical Society of the Conejo Valley and Ventura County and surrounding areas will hold a general meeting from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, at Temple Adat Elohim, 2420 E. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks. There is no charge to attend the meeting.

The topic of the meeting will be documenting immigrants to America from 1882 to 1954.

Guest speaker Marian L. Smith is the senior historian at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Department of Homeland Security. Both the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the National Archives have records of genealogical interest.

The lecture will focus on immigration and naturalization records of a typical late 19th and early 20th century immigrant.
