System should alert public of polluted beaches The pollution of California beaches has gotten out of control, and the government needs to establish an effective system that will help decrease the threat of safety for humans. The system that we have in place now takes too long to get results back, which doesn't enable us to warn swimmers in time to keep them out of the water. By the time we are aware of the water pollution, the danger may have already passed due to changing currents and the tide. The government should consider spending more of their budget on new research for quicker and more reliable ways to test for water pollution in a timely manner. Another way to decrease the threat to our health would be to increase our effort to purify water before we introduce it back into the ocean. We are well within our capabilities of keeping beaches safe to swim in, but we need to step up and remain vigilant when we see that our government could be doing more to take the initiative for the safety of the people.
