The IRS has money for Simi taxpayers The Internal Revenue Service is looking for 43 Simi Valley taxpayers who are due refund checks totaling more than $33,800 after those checks were returned as undeliverable. The refund checks average $787.05 and can be claimed as soon as the taxpayers update their addresses with the IRS. The residents are Earl and Mary Estep of Santa Susana, Breanna Baker, Jianoula K. Kokkino and David T. Berlin, Richard B. Harcombe and Becky Blake, Maria T. Cazares Torres, April E. Chaney, Thomas W. Cook, E. Hernandez Marquez and E. Cortes, Linda S. Checks are returned to the IRS if a taxpayer moves without notifying the IRS or the U.S. Postal Service. This year, 303 Ventura County taxpayers are owed refund checks worth more than $287,000. The "Where's My Refund?" tool on www.irs.gov lets taxpayers check the status of their refunds. Taxpayers with undeliverable checks can update their addresses by clicking the "Where's My Refund?" option. Those who do not have access to the Internet can call the IRS at (800) 829-1954 to update their address. A taxpayer can also ensure the IRS has the correct address by filing "Form 8822, Change of Address." To obtain a form, download it from www.irs.gov or call (800) 829-3676. To put an end to undeliverable refunds as well as lost or stolen refund checks, taxpayers are encouraged to sign up for direct deposit, which is available for filers of both paper and electronic returns. |
