Democratic Club will view film on Iraq war

The Simi Valley/Moorpark Democratic Club will host a pot luck holiday event at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19 in the community room of the Simi Valley Library, 2969 Tapo Canyon Road.

The club will provide a honeybaked turkey with all the trimmings.

Members may bring an unwrapped toy and/or a can of food to enter into a raffle for a Border's gift certificate.

A film about the Iraq war will also be shown.

Counselors will help explain Medicare plans

Volunteer counselors from the Health Insurance Counseling Advocacy Program will be available every Wednesday at the Simi Valley Senior Center, 3900 Avenida Simi, during the Medicare Open Enrollment period through Dec. 31.

The counselors will meet individually with seniors to explain the differences between various Medicare plans and assist people with enrolling online.

Counselors will be available by appointment only.

Award-winning artist will do demonstration

The Simi Valley Art Association will present a demonstration of oil painting by award-winning artist Irena Jablonsky at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21 at the Simi Valley Library, 2969 Tapo Canyon Road.

Jablonsky will paint a portrait and will explain her work as it develops on the canvas.

Her style is described as impressionistic and classical. Her paintings have been featured in several Southern California shows.
