Send a card to an injured vet

Residents are invited to an open house where they can make a Christmas/holiday card for a soldier who is spending the holidays in one of California's veterans' hospitals.

The event will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16 in the fellowship hall, Simi Valley United Methodist Church, 2394 Erringer Road.

Refreshments will be served and holiday music will be played; supplies will be provided free.

A reservation is not necessary but would be appreciated so that enough supplies and refreshments will be available.

For more information, call Carol Conner at (805) 527-4942. Events going on at Town Center

B&G Club benefits from big bucks

Deb Holler, financial center manager of Citibank Sycamore Plaza and board member of the Boys & Girls Club of Simi Valley, recently presented a $5,000 Citi Foundation grant to the club in support of Project Learn, the club's after-school education program.

Project Learn offers homework help and oneonone tutoring to 400 children a day.

The grant will allow the club to expand the program by providing additional educational materials, tutors and staff members.

In 2006, the Citi Foundation contributed to nonprofits in 48 countries, making 939 grants totaling nearly $24 million.
