Video arcades do not foster good behavior in youth As a mother of schoolage children, I am very concerned regarding the possibility of another electronic video arcade hangout establishment that is being proposed by the Simi Valley park district on the Sinaloa Lake project land. I would encourage every citizen in the city to visit inside the video arcade located at Tapo Canyon Road and Cochran Street by Fatburger and Dairy Queen. Walk around inside and check out the environment. Also, walk around the parking lot and again check out the situation. I would also strongly encourage the citizens to do this in the evening hours and at night. I have done this on several occasions. I do not feel that this is the environment that is conducive to a positive self-image in our children. I applaud the park district in their plans to develop fields for soccer, football and lacrosse. But what about the plans for another established competitive sport like the existing BMX track? No mention was made regarding the future of the track. The cities of Visalia and Camarillo have both opened new BMX tracks in the last month. Our track has been here almost 30 years and is the home of many national and world riders.I strongly feel that a sports environment with healthy competition is much better for the self-esteem of our children and is a much better way to "hang out."
