Stepped up enforcement yields results

On Nov. 1 the Simi Valley Police Department implemented Operation Safer Streets, a high profile, zero tolerance approach to criminal activity.

In the first three weeks, police officers made a total of 101 felony arrests and 287 misdemeanor arrests.

The felony arrested included 35 for narcotics possession, three for assault and three for auto theft.

The misdemeanor arrests included 77 for narcotics-related offices and 36 for driving under the influence.

Most of the arrests involved adult offenders, with 14 percent juvenile. The adults were booked at the Ventura County Main Jail and the juveniles were cited to probation and released to a parent or guardian.
