Bally to serve as host of toy collection drive
By Joann Groff joann@theacorn.com

Along with running on the treadmill and hitting the evening yoga classes, giving to the needy can now be included in the workout regime of Simi Valley locals.

This month, Bally Total Fitness, in conjunction with Mundo LA, will host a toy and book drive for the families of Para Los Niños, a nonprofit family service organization dedicated to helping children in some of Southern California's most challenging communities.

"The fruits of this monthlong campaign will make a world of difference to hundreds of deserving children this holiday season, said Ronny Bensimon, Para Los Niños chair of the board. "The gesture by Bally Total Fitness is notable for several reasons: Not only are they in the business of helping people to achieve their personal health and fitness goals, which is an important message for our children and families, but Bally Total Fitness clearly is a company with a culture of philanthropy and giving."

For every new book or toy they give, donors will receive a coupon book valued at $100, according to Sonny Reser, regional vice president of Bally Total Fitness.

"While improving your own health and fitness, you can make a real difference in the life of a child," Reser added.

There are 42 Los Angelesarea Bally Total Fitness sites. The Simi Valley gym is at 1313 E. Los Angeles Ave.

Para Los Niños opened its doors in 1980 in response to the plight of children living in Skid Row hotels. Now in its 27th year of operation, Para Los Niños assists nearly 3,500 low-income children each day and more than 5,000 families every year.
