Developer, council failed the residents of Simi Opening up the Nov. 2 edition of the Simi Valley Acorn only to read the front page feature was nothing short of infuriating. Not only has Larwin Co. raped our beautiful gateway to the valley on what used to be Happy Hill, but now they may not be completing the godforsaken project. It is outrageous that our City Council representatives, with the exception of Barbra Williamson, voted 41 to approve this ridiculous project that many residents so strongly opposed in the first place. I watched the City Council meeting where these council members' votes took place, listening to many opposing testimonials by residents, and remember how furious I became when Councilmember Becerra cast the final vote in favor of this development. His concern comes far too late now with the timeline for project completion. We all know that the housing crisis is not going away before spring arrives and have to wonder if the project will ever see completion. When I return home to my valley every day, I now look to the south in order to avoid having to look at the horrific damage that has been done to this beautiful hillside, where, before, I would appreciate its natural calming effect coming over the hill, away from city chaos that rapidly emerged in the San Fernando Valley. The very least that this "destruction" company can do prior to walking away is to replace the oak trees before they die and landscape the terrible damage that will be left for us all to look at until (and if) they decide to complete the dreadful eyesore that they have created. We cannot lay silent on this one. Jane McIntyre Simi Valley |
