Juried art show to benefit art scholarship fund

Simi Valley Art Association will host its Juried Open Art Show and Sale Nov. 3 through 11 during regular library hours at the Simi Valley Library, 2969 Tapo Canyon Road.

The judge will be illustrator Ron McKee.

Sales will benefit the association's annual Art Scholarship Fund open to Simi Valley graduating seniors planning a career in art.

A free public reception for participating artists will be from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4 in the library community room.

For more information, call Michelle Adler at (805) 5264599 or Bessie Jacinto at (805) 583-3690.

The association will also host a live demonstration by professional water colorist Mel Wolf at 7 p.m. Fri., Nov. 16 at the Simi Valley Library.

Wolf will create a painting and demonstrate how he "captures the interplay of architectural and other man-made forms with a variety of shapes provided by nature," according to a press release.

Wolf's style is considered interpretive and representational. Exhibits of his watercolors are found throughout Southern California. His most recent major work is the series called "Heritage Calabasas," depicting the area as it existed 100 years ago.

A $5 donation is requested to attend. For more information, call Michelle Adler at (805) 5264599.
